Man Dies While Swimming On Long Island

A 61-year-old man was pronounced decided shortly after deciding to go for a swim at a popular park in Nassau County.

It happened at around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5 at Manorhaven Park, Nassau County Police said

The man decided to go swimming while his male friend, 43, remained on the beach., police said.

A short time later, the man on the beach was unable to see his friend, according to police. The friend entered the water and located the swimmer floating face down. He attempted to remove his friend, but needed assistance and notified a lifeguard in the pool area. 

The man was removed from the water and transported by the Port Washington Fire Department to an area hospital. The man was pronounced deceased by a staff physician at 3:06 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing and the name of the man who died has not yet been released.
